Tuesday Weather Update.

Our weather will remain dry and hot today and Wednesday but changes are beginning to show up in future forecasts. This morning the weather computer models are indicating that a tropical wave in the western Caribbean will move into the Gulf of Mexico and possibly develop into a tropical storm. Most of the models indicate the system will move towards Texas and that would be great news for them as they are in a severe drought. The system would also pump moisture from the gulf into our area which would increase our rain chances and lower or temps for the upcoming weekend.

We will continue to monitor the system and keep you posted.

Hurricane Irene update.

Irene has become the first hurricane of the 2011 season and poses a serious threat to the east coast of the United States but NOT the gulf coast. The storm may be a category 3 0r 4 when it makes landfall later this week.

We are now in the heart of the hurricane season and more hurricanes are likely to develop over the next month or two. Now would be a good time to make sure that you have your plans in action just in case a hurricane threatens our area down the road.

Our weather for this week will be mainly hot and dry.

A cold front this weekend?

Highs will remain in the 90s but lows may actually hit the upper 60s early next week!

The tropics remain very active but nothing poses a threat to gulf at the present time but we will continue to monitor the situation.

Have a great weekend!

Tropics becoming very active!

We are now well into the hurricane season and things are really heating up in the Atlantic basin. The National Hurricane Center is watching four areas of interest. Two waves are located off the coast of Africa and another disturbance is located off of the southeast U.S. coast and the other one is the remains of former tropical storm Emily. None of the systems pose a direct threat to the gulf coastal region at this time but will have to monitored-especially the tropical waves near the African coast.

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Wednesday weather update.

Hot and humid conditions will continue in the Pine Belt today into the weekend with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. A few afternoon or early evening showers are thunderstorms can't be ruled out but chances or rather slim.

Temps to reach century mark today and Wednesday.

We could top out near or at 100 this afternoon and around 101 on Wednesday. If you must be outdoors please take frequent breaks and drink plenty of fluids. Please check on the elderly and make sure your animals have plenty of water.

Very hot and humid weather to continue.

Very hot and humid weather is forecast for the Pine Belt for the rest of the week. Highs today are expected to reach the upper 90s and around 100 on Wednesday. Rain chances will be slim to none for the next several days but as we head into the weekend our chances for afternoon and early evening showers and storms will increase.

Tropical Storm Emily continues to move through the Caribbean Sea. At this time the storm does not pose a threat to the our area but that could change as more detailed information is collected on the storm.

Our best advice is to keep tracking the storm along with us until we have a better idea on what track it will take. In the event the storm does not ever pose a threat to us this is still a good time to have your hurricane action plans in place because we are just now entering the most active portion of the hurricane season.
