Arctic Blast Arrives !!!

Very cold Arctic air is now entering our area and will persist through at least Friday. Hard freezes are likely tonight through Friday night. We will see a slight warm up over the weekend before another blast of Arctic air arrives next week and there are indications that it may be even colder !! Also, there is the possibility of more than one blast of cold air. We will be looking down the line for some winter weather issues. Nothing on the board at this point but with the weather being as cold as it has been and forecasted to be, something could come along and give us a wintry suprise. Stay warm !!! Rex

More cold to come next week !

We will get a brake from the very cold temps over the upcoming weekend- but that will not last long as yet another Arctic blast is getting ready to invade the deep south by next week. There are indications in the long range forecasts that the rest of the month will be cold with possibly a few more opportunites for more wintry weather. As I always say, Stay tuned !!! Rex

Cold week in store !

The National Weather Service has the viewing area under a Winter Weather Advisory until noon today but I expect very few problems as precip returns on the radar are slim to none. We will see a slow decrease in the cloud cover late this afternoon with highs remaining in the mid 40s. Lows tonight with be in the lower 30s. A new blast of colder air will arrive by Tuesday and that will result in highs through Thursday in the mid 40s and lows each night in the lower 20s. A little warmer weather will begin by Saturday and Sunday with highs rising into the 50s. There will be a slight chance for showers over the weekend as well. Another cold front may bring colder weather again early next week. Rex

Uncertain forecast for the weekend !

A strong low pressure area is forecast to cross the northern gulf on Sunday and Sunday night. At this time it appears the best chance for frozen precip will be over our northern counties and further northward. There are many things that could easily change this forecast. If the low tracks further south in the gulf and colder air gets into place, then the entire viewing area could end up seeing a significant winter weather event. At the least a cold rain is forecast for Sunday and Sunday night but this could easily transition into a winter storm in the form of freezing rain, sleet or snow-or a mixture of all of it. POSSIBLE WILD WEATHER ON THE WAY !!!

There is no question as we go into next week the weather is going to turn much colder. How much colder ? Well the models are coming into better agreement but it is still too early to tell but do be prepared for some cold days and very cold nights. Now the other intersting side of the story. A storm system off the coast of California will begin to work it's way east soon and will arrive in our neck of the woods Sunday into Sunday night. Here is the deal. If there is enough cold air in place and the low tracks south of our area then we may see a serious winter storm ! Models indicate that there will be enough moisture in the air to provide 1-2 inces of rain or more. That's fine if it falls in temps above freezing but if it occurs in below freezing temps that could result in ice and sleet accumulations of 1 half inch to an inch and that would be bad. On the other hand if the temps are cold enough through all of the air columns then the precip would fall as snow resulting in an amazing 5-15 inches of SNOW!!! WOW!!! I am urging you to keep abreast of every forecast that comes from this station over the next few days. I will take care of the morning forecasts, Nick will have the evening updates and Kelly will have the weekends. Who knows, we may all end up here if it really gets serious !!! A lesson on weather models.

Next week is going to be cold ! Please be prepared for it ! The current weather models are notorious for not being able to predict shallow, cold air masses and I think this is the case for the expected temps around here next week. Please keep in mind as we get closer to the weekend, the models will begin to latch on to the expected cold, so don't be suprised if it turns out to be colder than what is currently being advertised in our seven day forecast. MAJOR COLD BLAST POSSIBLE MID MONTH!!

For about the next week to ten days we are going to basically see normal to slightly below normal temps in our area but all the major forecast models are indicating that by mid month-say around the 12th through the 20th- a huge mass of Siberian air will invade much of the nation including the deep south. There are hints at some type of winter weather event or two with this outbreak of cold air. Could it mean snow or possibly and ice storm for us ? Well it is much too early to tell at this point but I urge everyone to pay very close attention to the weather over the next two weeks. One forecast model that I saw yesterday indicated lows in our area of around 10 degrees with highs in the 20s on or near the 18th of January. Please keep in mind that this is a long range forecast that is apt to change but all indications are there of some really interesting weather headed our way down the line.
