Enjoy the slightly warmer temps-they might not last long !

Although today will be sunny and cool with highs in the mid 50s, the next six days or so will be a little warmer. So far, we are having a colder than normal winter and it appears that by the middle of next week, yet another blast of cold Arctic air will invade the south. Snow lovers, don't give up just yet !! Much of February and even March may see temps below normal and with the projected storm paths, all it takes is cold air being in the right place at the right time for us to see a wintry weather setup. Rain on the way !

Low pressure is forming off the Texas coast and will begin moving towards the east and northeast and that will spread a shield of rain into our area beginning this afternoon. The rain should be mostly light in nature before becoming steadily heavier after midnight. There may be one or two rumbles of thunder after midnight as well but no severe weather is forecast at this time. After the system moves east of us on Tuesday clearing will begin Tuesday night and sunny and cool conditions will prevail Wednesday through Friday. Partly cloudy skies on Saturday with highs around 61 and a slight chance for rain on Sunday with highs around 60. Although temps will fall into the the 30s Wednesday through Sunday for overnight lows, no terribly cold air is forecast to return until possibly sometime next week. Rex

No end in sight to the cold !

It's looks like the winter of 2010-11 is going down in the record books as one of the coldest for the nation since the 80s ! At this time there appears to be little change in the forecast of continued below normal temps here in the deep south through at least mid February and possibly lasting on into March. As I stated in my post Thursday, it still appears like there may be several chances of wintry weather problems down the line. As I learn more I will pass the information along. Rex

No end in sight to the cold !

The Winter that Was !

When the winter forecast was issued last fall for the south, it appeared that the weather patterns were setting things up so that we would have above normal temps and below normal precipitation, after all, it was based on a La Nina winter pattern weather which generally favors those conditions for the southern portion of the United States when that type of pattern is present. Well, so far that has not been the case at all. It now appears that the colder than normal weather will stay with us on into March ! There is even the possibility that we have yet to see the worst of the cold!!! Also, there appears to be a possibility of several snow and or ice events as well. That's what I love about the weather- it is such a misunderstood procees and not an exact science. The best thing to do is to , as I have often said at the end of my blogs, STAY TUNED !!! Rex

Two cold fronts this week.

Two cold fronts will make it through the area this week. The first one will arrive this evening and will be followed by some cooler air, but nothing drastic. The second, stronger front will arrive Thursday night and will be followed by a quick shot of Arctic air that will last Friday through the weekend. How is the rest of the winter shaping up? Well, it appears that cooler than normal conditions could last into March. Will we see a few snow opportunites? I think so !!! Stay tuned. Rex

Warmer for the weekend!

Fianlly, the Arctic grip is letting go of our weather. As the huge dome of cold air slides east, we will see an increase in temps, as well as an increase in moisture that will bring a chance of rain to the area Sunday afternoon in the Tuesday. Highs through that period will be in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Another cold front will slide through by Wednesday resulting in cooler weather, but not nearly as cold as it has been in the last few days. I will have more on February weather thoughts next week.
