7/29 Major Flooding in Hattiesburg

This afternoon we have had major flooding in and around the city of Hattiesburg. Within an hour period this afternoon, our Alfa skycam at Forrest General Hospital recorded at least 2 inches in an hour. Now the gauge has 2.64" after an hour and a half of rain.

At about 4pm we started getting incredible reports from some viewers.

One viewer in West Hattiesburg recorded 3 inches in his backyard.
Another viewer in Petal measured over 5 inches.
Also one of Channel 7's photographers confirmed a vehicle floating down Highway 49.
We also had a report from the Shoneys in Hattiesburg saying many cars were have water rise over the bumper.
Also, we heard an unconfirmed report of a person struck by lightning.

Overall, the thunderstorms throughout the Pine Belt seem to be associated with an area of Low Pressure located off the Coast of MS. This is a very interesting disturbance which seems to be pestering the coast line with extra energy and fuel for these thunderstorms. The system has also aided in the movement of the storms into an abnormal motion from east to west.
