Afternoon weather update !

A brand new video has just been posted at wdam.com for the severe weather and possible flash flooding that is expected to move through our area late this afternoon into the overnight hours. Rex

Heavy rain-severe weather event likely tonight !

A storm system is currently getting ready to move into the Pine Belt this afternoon into tonight and will likely not pass through until Wednesday morning. There is a threat of severe weather with this system tonight which includes isolated strong tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and heavy rain. The main concern with this system is the heavy rain that is expected. Average amounts will range from 2-4 inches with some isolated higher amounts. Due to the heavy rain from last weekend, the ground is already saturated and this is why a Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the viewing area beginning this evening and lasting into Wednesday. We will continue to monitor this developing weather situation. Rex.

Another shot at rain Tuesday and Wednesday-then nicer weather !

Today will be mostly sunny and dry but we will see an increase in clouds on Tuesday with a chance for rain developing. By early Wednesday a front will approach the area bringing with it a good chance for showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms may be heavy. I expect the system to clear the area by Wednesday evening or before and will be followed by much nicer weather Thursday into the weekend. Rex

Umbrellas needed !!

Rain chances will increase as the day wears on here in the Pine Belt. Rain and isolated thunderstorms will be likely by this afternoon and continue into tonight on into Saturday. We may end up with a couple of inches of rain before the system moves out Saturday evening. Much cooler and drier air will arrive on Sunday with highs in the lower 60s under sunny skies. By late Sunday night-early Monday morning we expect temps to fall to the mid 30s. Have a great weekend!! Rex

Rain likely Friday through Saturday.

Weather data coming into the weather office this morning indicates that rain and a few thunderstorms will begin developing Friday afternoon and lasting into Saturday evening. At this time the threat of severe weather is low, but that will have to be monitored in later forecasts. The rain will be welcome as we have been quite dry in the past few weeks. A cold front will sweep through early Sunday taking the rain with it followed cooler and drier weather. Rex

Nice string of good weather days ahead !

High pressure will dominate our weather today through early Friday. Highs each day will be in the lower 70s and most lows in the 40s. By Friday, we will introduce a 20% chance for a shower with highs still remaining in the lower 70s. By Saturday, a rather strong cold front will approach our area and bring with it a 60% chance for showers and thunderstorms. After the front passes, much cooler air will return to the Pine Belt with highs on Sunday in the upper 50s and lows in the upper 30s. Warmer weather will return by early next week. Rex
